They do it by testing, controlling, and auditing the production process as well as training staff on quality procedures. Thats why your quality engineer resume must be spotlessly formatted and fine-tuned to the position youre seeking.Start your quality engineer resume with a professional header. Its not necessary to put an address on your resume but your contact details should be up to date.Make sure the sections of your resume help recruiters navigate through the document.Pick out the resume format that best serves your needs. The reverse chronological resume template is the way to go most of the time as it highlights your experience and achievements. The best resume fonts shouldnt be too fancy. They must be readable for the recruiter and the ATS.Dont put too much information on your resume. Leave some breathing room in the form of white space.Dont know whether to send your resume as PDF or Word? Opt for PDF if the employer hasnt asked for a DOC file specifically.2. Write a Quality Engineer Resume Objective or SummaryStart your quality engineer resume with a resume profilea brief paragraph that introduces you to the recruiter and serves as an elevator pitch.Your resume profile may take the form of a resume objective or summary.Heres how the two differ from each other:A professional summary is the best option for a senior quality assurance engineer resume with at least 2 years of experience. A summary focuses on your experience and achievements.A profession al objective is a great option for an entry-level quality engineer resume. It focuses on your skills to show youre a perfect fit.Always try to add numbers to your resume profile. Numbers show your real impact.Pro Tip: Your resume profile is the first section on your resume but you should write it last. Why? When your entire document is ready it will be much easier to pick out the things you want to show off.3. Create the Perfect Quality Engineer Job Description for a ResumeHeres the thing:Your work experience resume section is what matters most to the recruiter. It must clearly show youre the one wholl get the job done.Start with tailoring your resume to the job:Put your current or latest position first. Follow it up with the previous ones.In each entry put the position title, company name, location, and dates.Avoid describing your experience in paragraphs. Opt for bullet points instead. 5-6 bullets per position will do.Make sure each bullet contains resume power words, such as devel oped, monitored, conducted, supervised, etc.Focus on the experience relevant to the position and try to quantify whatever you can.Pro Tip: If youre not sure youve got everything right, read our guide on resume dos and donts.4. Make Your Quality Engineer Resume Education Section SpotlessYour education matters.Heres how to get your resume education section right:More than 5 years of experience? List your degree, school name, school location, and graduation year. Youre done.Less experienced candidates may want to add extracurricular activities, academic honors and achievements, as well as relevant coursework.List your certifications in a dedicated resume section to make them visible.Pro Tip: Consider listing your GPA if you scored upwards of 3.5 and you graduated less than three years ago.5. Creating a Social Media Plan of Action - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Creating a Social Media Plan of Action - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Busy professionals who use social media for personal branding, networking, job search, etc. normally donât have time to throw away. Yet, most use social media without having any real strategy. Sure, they may get a âhitâ on occasion with a business referral or job opening information, but those happenings tend to be a happy surprise. In fact, I addressed an audience last week in Washington D.C., asking participants if they have a documented social media plan. Out of hundreds of people in attendance, only one raised her hand. Creating a plan for your personal brand does not have to be time consuming. These are the three action items I gave the audience. Three step social media plan Write down your goals. What do you want to accomplish? Do you want to increase your website views by 25% in thirty days? Do you want to be contacted by two new recruiters with hot job leads each month? Itâs important to identify targets before taking action on social networks to ensure that your chosen networks and actions on them are in alignment with your goals. Also, you have no way of knowing if you are successful without understanding your goals. Write down who you need to connect with to reach your goals. If you want to increase website traffic, who is your target market? Write down demographic, geographic and psychographic descriptions. Do you need to connect with stay-at-home moms, 25-45, living in the United States? Depending on your product/service offerings, Pinterest, a picture-based social network that boasts over 86% female users, may be a good option. Similarly, you likely would not use Google+ to connect with that demographic as it is mostly male. In the recruiter scenario, write down firms known to work with your dream companies. If internal HR reps, write down the titles and industries they work in. Then, use LinkedIn Advanced Search to locate and connect with the firmâs recruiters or type in job titles, industry and location to create a âconnectionâ list consisting of your desired future contacts. Begin connecting with your desired connections and build âreal worldâ relationships. For some reason, many social media users believe that the rules of engagement online are different than in person. However, you build relationships online just as you would in person, over time. Donât try to immediately sell your companyâs offerings or yourself. Ask questions, offer assistance, and show that you are interested in building a long-term business relationship. Fit and Proper Life After Retirement
Fit and Proper Life After Retirement For those that have been in the workforce for most of their adult lives, retirement can be quite the adjustment. Of course itâs exciting to finally be free from the confines of the workplace, but losing a routine that youâve held for years, and in some cases decades, can easily throw you off. Itâs often in these times that other routines go out the window, too. If youâre someone who spent most of the workday on their feet, for example, you may suddenly find yourself not getting the same amount of exercise you used to, simply by not working. Similarly, sleeping and eating habits may no longer be as structured. But just because youâve retired doesnât mean that healthy structure has to be completely abandoned. If fact, keeping a good schedule and routine is often helpful to ease the transition and positively affects your well being. Here are some things you may want to include in your schedule. Exercise As you get older, exercise becomes even more important, but it also becomes more of a challenge. Because joints, tendons and muscles donât posses the same recovery time as they used to, low impact exercises are the recommended form of activity to keep you in good health and avoid problem joint injuries. Things like walking and swimming are easier on your body than, say, running and jumping and each have their own benefits. Walking is a great way to get your heart rate up and increase circulation throughout the body. Walking outside also exposes you to the fresh air and sunshine and increases your intake of oxygen. It can also be a sociable time, too. Keeping a regular walking date with friends or a spouse can be a great time to talk and enjoy your time while getting in a good workout. Whatever exercise you love, itâs important to stick to it with a regular routine in order to keep your body strong and healthy. Diet The importance of healthy eating cannot be overstated. A well balanced diet full of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants is truly what keeps your body running. As we get older, though, diet tends to take a backseat to convenience and it becomes so easy to favour poor food choices over healthy ones simply because theyâre easier. But eating well doesnât have to be hard, and it can be delicious too. As we age, itâs also important to consider to foods we need to most. Increasing things like protein and healthy fats are recommended for heart health as well as keeping muscles strong, preventing them from wasting. Diet also plays a crucial role as a preventative measure from future illness. Fruits and particularly vegetables are full of vitamins and anti-oxidants that help fight anything from the common cold to more aggressive illnesses and can keep you strong and healthy in the face of age-related illness. Social Life Another key to a healthy post-retirement lifestyle is keeping up a good social life. Once you no longer socialize with co-workers or customers everyday, depending what line of work youâre in, youâll notice their absence fairly quickly. As humans, itâs important to be around other people and itâs practically built into our personalities. Becoming isolated can quickly lead to depression and apathy and these emotional health issues are just as important as physical ones. For some, however, their social life skyrockets after retirement, with more time than ever to get together. Scheduling time to see friends and family is a good way to keep up with them, but it doesnât stop there. Retirement allows you the opportunity to meet new people and become more involved in the community. You may even find you spend more time working than ever, finally focusing on your passion projects. Whatever your dream is, youâve been afforded the time to do it. Relaxing Life After Retirement Though you may be eager to get on to new things, donât forget that retirement is a good time to stop and relax. Because youâre not necessarily limited to a 9-5 schedule, youâre free to kick back when you feel the need to. As we age, itâs more important than ever to ensure we live stress-free lives and take a little time for ourselves. Whatever it is that puts you at ease, now it the time to enjoy it! Draft Writing As Resume Skill
Draft Writing As Resume SkillDraft writing as resume skill is among the most important resume writing skills. It must be the first skill you master and every skill has its advantages and disadvantages. But drafting as skill is one of the most essential skills of the resume writer because it defines the quality of the work you have done and sets your resume apart from the rest. It is one of the most essential resume writing skills because it is a combination of two skills - verbal and written. This skill is also the foundation of all other resume writing skills.Any professional writer will tell you that the most important part of any resume is the written part. It is no different for the resume. And the written part is equally important and vital. However, if you think it is writing skill alone that will make your resume stand out among the rest, then you are making a big mistake. Draft writing skills are equally important in both the written and verbal section of the resume and must no t be ignored. In fact, if you try to neglect this skill, then you will never achieve a good resume. In order to master this skill, it is important to write two drafts of the resume. The first draft is the first thing you go to when you get an offer of a job interview and the second draft is the second version. This will help you in avoiding grammatical errors and will help you avoid having to repeat yourself in the first draft. If you have a chance to review the first draft of your resume before the employer looks at it, then do it. This will help you make the corrections at that stage and will also help you in cutting down on the number of revisions you will need.In fact, you can do what a few others do and look through the first draft of the resume, fix the errors and then go over the second draft only after everything has been fixed. This second draft will be the one you use for the employer. However, verbal skills must be taught early on in life. In fact, your experience of life is probably the best time to teach these skills. In general, a good resume can be corrected even without the help of the professional writer.

Why Should You Try Career Sampling
Why Should You Try Career Sampling Why Should You Try Career Sampling? Why Should You Try Career Sampling? October 15, 2009 by Career Coach Sherri Thomas 2 Comments Everyone has bad days at work, but if your bad day stretches to a hundred bad days(!) then you may want to start shaking things up a bit. Twice during my own career I found myself in a frustrating and unchallenging job and stayed longer than I should have. Mostly because I was delusional and thought that if I proved my loyalty and stayed with the company long enough theyd reward me with a new and improved job, (did I mention the delusional part?), but also because I was afraid of trying something new, and potentially failing. If youre in a similar situation and the thought of charting into unknown career territory makes you want to curl up under your office cube, then you may want to try career sampling the art of dipping your toe into a pool of new career opportunities, before diving in head first. One idea on how to try career sampling is work part-time. Its a great way to test drive transitioning in a new job role, company or industry is to start out part time. Investing a little time up front to take on a part-time position is a much better strategy than investing all your time and realizing youve made a bad career choice. If you think you dont have the right experience, a great attitude and eagerness to learn can help get your foot in the door. And once you start proving yourself and showing results, a promotion to a full time position could be just around the corner!

Why I Wont Read Your Cover Letter (Guest post from Jodi Glickman)
Why I Wont Read Your Cover Letter (Guest post from Jodi Glickman) 102 Flares 102 Flares Jodi Glickman is a former Peace Corps Volunteer (Chile) turned investment banker (Goldman Sachsâ) turned communication expert. She is the founder of communication training firm Great on the Job, a regular contributer to the Harvard Business Review Blog and the author of the upcoming book: Great on the Job: What to Say, How to Say It, The Secrets of Getting Ahead (St. Martinâs Press, May 2011). You can follow her on Twitter at @greatonthejob. With 84% of the workforce saying theyâll look for a new job in 2011, thereâs a good chance youâll need to dust off that old resume and cover letter. And while a single resume may suffice for the dozens (if not hundreds) of positions you apply for, one or two cover letter templates most certainly wonât do the trick. If you want to stand out from the pack, your cover letter is your shot at the title. If you want me to read it, it canât be a standard form letter that simply repeats your resume. Here are three pitfalls to avoid if you want me to read your cover letter: Itâs Generic Itâs not hard to understand why recruiters ignore standard form letter emails. The worst thing you can do is start your cover letter with: Dear Sir or Madame or To Whom it May Concern. With social media platforms today, itâs almost inexcusable to not find a direct name at the company youâre interested in. Once youâve got a name, then tailor your cover letter to the specific job and organization at hand. Donât simply talk about why youâre great at sales or business development, highlight why youâd be great selling my product or winning new business for our specific target audience. Itâs not Impassioned The last thing I want to do is hire someone who is wishy-washy about my company or organization. I want to know that you believe in our products or mission wholeheartedly. I want you to show me that you love what we do and that youâd be an amazing addition to our team. Go ahead and make it personal. Use a story or anecdote to convince me that this role is a perfect fit for you and me. Make it hard for me not to respond to you. Itâs Too Long If youâve grabbed my attention, youâve got to hold it for the balance of the ¾ of a page youâve got available to you. Donât waste my time repeating your resume. Be short and sweet and to the point. Give me just enough information so that Iâm intrigued. The goal of the cover letter isnât to get you a job; itâs to get you past the front door, through to the interview stage. At the end of the day, if you grab my attention, convince me that you are passionate about this role or position, show me that youâre the absolute right person for the job, and prove that you love my company; I will no doubt read your cover letter. Itâs a lot to ask (in ~350 words or less), but it works.
